Hey- I am new to your site, and I love hearing your side of hearing loss. You said that you don’t wear your hearing aids all of the time, only when actively listening to someone. Why is that?

FOR ALL YOU (PARDON THE EXPRESSION) “CELL PHONE FREAKS”, TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU ARE SHOPPING, DRIVEING OR IN A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE.

I HAVE A TEENAGE SON WHOSE FRIENDS LIVE ON THEIR CELL PHONES WITH CALLS OR TEXT MESSAGES CONSTANTLY. ONE OF HIS FRIENDS TOLD HIM THAT HE SENT OVER TEN THOUSAND TEXT MESSAGES LAST MONTH.

I AM A CHILD OF THE ‘50S. WE STILL HAD PARTY LINES (NOT 900 NUMBERS BUT LINE SHARING WITH NEIGHBORS). PEOPLE HAVE BECOME ADDICTED TO CELL PHONES.

A PHONE CALL OR TEXT MESSAGE IS PROBABLY NOT AN EMERGENCY UNLESS YOU ARE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, CHECK THEM WHEN YOU ARE ALONE AND NOT INVOLVED IN ANOTHER ACTIVITY. GET OVER IT!!!

I’ve figured out that I can set my cell to the lowest volume, stuff it in a bag, and put the easylink right up against it-this also works with your ipod/headphones I also have a habit of keeping my phone-on vibrate- in my pocket. But mine won’t just vibrate, it also ring. Of course, mine’s always at top volume, and needless to say, I get weird looks, too. Also, my hearing aids are apparently not TC3 compatible with my cell, although they supposedly are. Nor with my home phone. What am I doing wrong. Running for the phone, i actually end up ripping them off to talk, then shoving them back in to hear the phone ring, again!

I fervently wish I could get one of those bracelets that lights up when the phone rings … alas, they seem compatible only with UK / European cellphones.
Missed calls are frustrating! I keep my phone on vibrate mode, and it still surprises me how noisy it can be to hearing people. My wife tells me when my phone’s going off — even when it’s in another room.
Looking at your audiogram, looks like you oughta use a bass-guitar solo or such for your ringtone. Can cellphones play noises that low?

I was wondering where you’ve been. I have a Sidekick with flashing lights, Mostly I just do text messaging. I don’t have an answer for you, except to check it often. That’s what I do. I can hear mine ring, but I have the volume turned up so loud (like you) everyone looks at me. So I turn it off. My Sidekick flashes and vibrates too. I know– you mentioned your phone does that.
